RoS KIVA

We are honored to be stewards of a small piece of God's creation.  As we establish our family farm, we are aware of how fortunate we are to live in this great country.  It is far too easy to take for granted the freedom, opportunity, and abundance God has blessed us with.

This past Christmas, in an effort to make our gift-giving meaningful, we looked for ways to share our blessings.  We discovered Kiva, a wonderful non-profit organization that provides micro loans to individuals and businesses in other countries.  “Kiva” is a Swahili word meaning “agreement” or “unity.”  On Kiva's website, potential lenders can read profiles of individuals or businesses applying for loans.  For as little as $25, you can become a partner in someone else's success by contributing to the overall loan.  Recipients use the loans to increase their incomes.  When the loan is repaid, the full amount is returned to the lenders.  Lenders can keep their money, or they can choose to continue to donate to another applicant.

Founded in 2005, Kiva is a relatively young organization, but already they have made a tremendous difference to people in many different countries.  You can check out press reviews on their website from publications ranging from The Wall Street Journal to NPR to BusinessWeek.  Our Kiva lender page profiles the folks we have loaned to in honor of our family and friends.

As you explore the Kiva site, you just might find an individual or business in need that touches your heart.  We would be happy to have you join us in spreading God's bounty around the world!
